My Personal Rattlesnake Adventures
”I grew up on a ranch in Montana and rattlesnakes were a common occurrence around the ranch. All of us had strict training in what to do and what not to do around this reptile from a very early age because there were so many of them. I’m going to share some of my pictures and some of our families adventures with these reptiles. I'm so grateful to my father who gave us the education to be able to respect these reptiles while we were keeping ourselves safe.“

He has a unique way of ending up in near disaster situations and somehow always gets up laughing. “

Nature Survival, War, and other Hardship

Hurricane Hunters
"At the vortex of the action are the crew of a Air Force weather plane penetrating Hurricane Hilda, an off-season threat boiling up the Atlantic coast from Florida to New York. Mr. Anderson describes Hilda's metamorphosis into a full-blown typhoon and its devastating effect on such widely scattered enterprises as a space shot and a small sailboat trapped int he hurricane's eye. Very scary." - New York Times, Nov 26, 1972 Back cover: Filled with the tension and drama of a hurricane itself, this is a brutally realistic novel of "Hurricane Hilda," the victims of its unrelenting furry, and the men who try to understand, forecast, and minimize the effects of this deadly ravager.

These are my Credentials : Military Tales of the Unexpected (These are my CredentialsI)
These are my Credentials 2 Military Tales of the Unexpected

BITTERSWEET FREEDOM IN A FAR LAND: Book One of the Tuckaseegee Chronicles
From Publishers Weekly “Set in the American colonies in 1750, this is a tale of discovery, acceptance, war, love, and cultural awareness. A realistic historical piece, this novel is fraught with danger and heartbreak, but buoyed by romance and the hope for survival into future generations...meticulously researched, … The prose is flawless and the characters are robust and believable. Impressive.”

The Watchmaker
Short. ”In 1938, Germany was a dangerous place to be. The rise of the Third Reich made life precarious for Jews and their sympathizers. Anti-Semitism was on the rise throughout Europe thanks to Nazi propaganda. …Wilhelm Plum, a mild mannered shopkeeper, has turned a blind eye to the growing anti-Semitism in his country, naively believing that no harm will come to him or his young business partner, Ruben Geller, a dedicated and brilliant watchmaker. But as tension mounts throughout the fall of 1938, he can no longer ignore the imminent danger. When Wilhelm overhears his son, Hans, a Nazi sympathizer, plan the impending pogrom with a friend, Wilhelm must risk everything to save Ruben and family from a horrid fate.”

A Million Tears (The Tears Series - Book 1)
“America at the turn of the century. For the enterprising immigrant - a land of optimism and hope. From the hardship and poverty of Wales in 1890 this is the story of the Griffiths family and their journey to succeed in the new country. Henke describes the excitement of the pioneers in the early twentieth century. A tale of intrigue and adventure.“

Lost Child (Volume One) - Anguish in the Nantahala
Yesterday I posted Volume Two of this, Lost Child (Volume Two) - Retribution in the Nantahala .  Apparently you do need to read the first one first, and here it is. The books are by the same author as Winter Kill - War With China Has Already Begun which is listed below, two headings down. They are about a child getting lost in the wilderness and the father’s journey to find her.

Old Timers
Children’s short book of stories. In the first one, Abigail takes on the life of a lady’s maid in the olden days.

Future Slave
”Jokeem, a black teenager in the 21st century, is angered by a history lesson about Frederick Douglass. The next day, after a conversation with his mother about reparations for slavery, Jokeem is knocked out during an incident with the police. He wakes up as a slave in the old south and learns that he belongs to a black woman who was once a slave herself, Sally Seymour, a famous pastry cook. Her establishment includes two other slaves, Felix and Chloe, with whom Jokeem becomes good friends. Will he make it back to the 21st century, or is he doomed to live out his life as property in the far distant past?”

Politics, Terrorism, and Intrigue/Conspiracy

The Sky Between Two Worlds--Book 1: Nightfall
”A novel of intrigue, love, battle and survival in a future world of titanic East-West conflict. In 2027, fate tosses Kantak Johnson and friends into the struggle when he and another separately recognize how to make stealth warplanes undetectable. Kantak discloses it in the West; the other secretly discloses it to a hostile East. Thus two nuclear powers each develop bombers that the other cannot detect. Then the hostility over oil ratchets up....”

“A rise in stroke-like cases has CDC analyst Mike Shafer on alert. Patients in every demographic in the Great Plains area, from toddlers to healthy adults to the elderly, are succumbing to rapid deterioration - and death. Veterinarian Donna Bailey, meanwhile, is dealing with an outbreak of her own. It looks like mad cow disease. But to be affecting so many species? Impossible…..Whatever it is, it's spreading. Fast. “

Collapse, Post-Apocalypse, Speculative Futures

Winter Kill - War With China Has Already Begun
Here it is again! This would probably be the book that inspired this blog, if there is a single one. Although I still haven't got far into the book as I don’t even have a Kindle myself, as much as I know so far it's the one closest in plot and emphasis to how I’d like a book to be. Extra- long synopsis below. ”In (this) terrifyingly plausible military techno-thriller…you will be immediately drawn into the strong characters of this richly detailed adventure. As the pace accelerates, you will become wrapped up in the action at the local level. At the same time, your thirst for the economic, geopolitical and military context of the war will be thoroughly satisfied. With unexpected developments and twists, this story will confront you with the daunting challenge of surviving in the Winter Kill world, just as it confronted the people of the Sunshine Coast communities of the Pacific Northwest and numerous strategic locations around the world. “When the Nuclear Extinction War...begins, it comes as a complete surprise to just about everybody. But for retired military planner, Casey Callaghan, it represents the culmination of the worst case scenario which he had feared was inevitable – and one for which he had made extensive preparations. His motivation is the security of his wife and five small children, his extended family and as many of his friends and neighbors as he can save. The world is faced with the unimaginable devastation of a global nuclear winter which kills off 95% of humankind like the winter kill of a crop in nature. Survival has suddenly become very personal. “After reading Winter Kill, when you consider our relationship with China you might see, as Casey Callaghan does, that we are blindly rushing towards catastrophe... You will also find yourself reflecting on real world events such as the Arab Spring, the steady rise in the price of gold and the talk of an attack on Iran as subjects well explored in Winter Kill…”

The Lawrence Commission
”It is 2096 and the United States of America is in turmoil. Violence and senseless destruction in the streets of the inner cities is commonplace. Those citizens who could afford it, have withdrawn into heavily fortified inner city redoubts while the bulk of the population, too poor to arm themselves and unable to flee the cities, are left to the roving bands who drift aimlessly around the streets taking what they want and destroying the rest with impunity. Horror has spread into every corner of the country, and the one force that can keep it at bay is being threatened; the contained, fortified lands know as Commissions. When Commissioner George Marconi of the Marconi Commission decides to file claims against the Lawrence Commission in New Mexico, threatening the tranquil and utopian life of its citizens, it is up to Donald Garrett, Assistant to Commissioner Daniel Lawrence to gather the troops and save the Lawrence Commission from being taken over.”

Welcome to Setcopia: a Dystopian Thriller
”Orwellian dystopia, a dark satire into a near reality addressing voter apathy, the rise of the corporates as a political force, the role of consumerism in society and the class divide that threatens to destroy the work/life balance or ordinary people. “

Majority Rules
”By the year 2054, the White Majority that commanded the destiny of the Northern American Continent for 280 years, would fall. In the wake of a growing crisis over the shortage of fresh water, that would engulf the entire world by the middle of the 21st century, and elevated water prices; a new political party would arise in the United States that would unite the Non-White communities under one political banner and seize power. This so-called “Transition” led to the most significant domestic conflict since the U.S. Civil War of the 19th Century and nearly resulted in the absolute destruction of the United States...”

”The year is 2064 and Samuel Hearst is living in a nightmare he may never wake up from. The United States is on its way to merging with the other countries of the world to form one giant nation and the law of the land is political correctness. Samuel once considered an outstanding citizen is now accused of breaking the law and is placed into the Insitute where people are retrained to think, act and breathe not as an individual, but as society sees fit. Hope is all but gone for Samuel, but a mysterious light appears to him pointing him to a man who holds the key to a world Samuel never thought possible.”

A Abba's Apocalypse
”Chaos and evil rule the world. You must bear the brand, or run from the mark and fend for life. The worldwide organization policing the mark is “Trinity.” Without their brand on your hand or forehead you cannot buy anything of value; especially those things that sustain existence. Those not bearing the brand must hide and figure out a way to survive the demonic forces searching them out. “Trinity” is more than an organization. It is a religion that will drag you to Hell. There is no turning back once you have received their brand…” Religious, and needs an editor.

Above with Sci-Fi or Fantasy Elements

The Change:Orbital
”Waking up on London's M25 motorway, Howard tries to get to grips with his new surroundings. The wide road is filled with cars and rotting carcasses. As he struggles to survive, he falls in with the road pirates - a ragged band of bikers who forage amongst the derelict vehicles for anything they can steal to survive. But the road doesn't belong to them alone, not any more. Between the rows of metal and shattered glass an unimaginable creature has been born and nothing can stop it's hunger for destruction. THE CHANGE: ORBITAL is the first in a series of uncompromising enthralling adventures, a road trip into London that brilliantly imagines the city's post apocalyptic future. “

The Blaster
Shorter. “Power went out across the globe and never came back on. People adapted, eventually. Some, like Lehman and his family, had foresight and banded together with others and formed new types of communities. Lehman and two other men had the idea to network with other communities, so they ventured out on a road trip around the southeast. What they encounter will not only change their idea of what is possible, but change the new world itself. The Blaster is a post-apocalyptic story unlike any other. An exploration of the power of fiction, The Blaster features glowing energy beings, ravenous hellhounds, and the most valuable prop in scifi movie history.”
