How To Fish in a Pond : A Guide To Fishing In Small Ponds

How to Win a Bass Tournament: Personal Lessons from 8 Pro Bass Fishermen
I know it’s about tournaments, but hopefully the information will be helpful for fishing for food too.

Science of Trapping
This is the Kindle version of an old book. It’s not available to Canada, and some inconsistencies make me wonder if they’re having trouble with the listing somehow. If it comes up unavailable, you can find it here to read online http://www.gutenberg.org/files/34098/34098-h/34098-h.htm

Going on 50
” Is it possible to be nearing the half century mark in your life and still have the energy and fitness level of a 30 year old? In this book the author lays out his personal fitness and diet plan with special emphasis on the training requirements of a person in the second half of their 40s when their metabolism slows down. He explains which training and diet principles work for him, so he can feel many years younger, function at peak capacity and delay the aging process, while spending as little time working out as possible and not counting calories.”

Nutrition for Children: Practical and To-The-Point, Second Edition
” As careers go, Matt Prazak went from working with software and computer-aided design systems to being a Stay-At-Home-Dad and, eventually, a Nutrition Hobbyist. He became interested in nutrition as his oldest son reached toddler-hood and saw that popular sources of nutrition information lacked many important details. Since he's the kind of guy who worries about stuff like iodine and molybdenum, he went directly to the publications of the Institute of Medicine and the USDA and digested them into Nutrition for Children: Practical and To-The-Point. “

Ideas/Theory/Misc.

How to Get to the Future Before It Gets to You
Doomsday humour, "a daring and amusing antidote to those Doomsday prophets who believe that man is destined to destroy himself and planet earth."

Natural Disasters
Probably pretty basic. Author writes stuff all over the map, so isn’t an expert, but it’s on the topic so I listed it.

Revelation Realized
A Verse-By-Verse Discovery of the Last Book of the Bible

2012: What You Must Know, The Truth Straight from the Mayans

True Accounts

Fighting Cervical Cancer - From Tragedy To Triumph

Views from the Hills - An illustrated country diary
"Shut out the modern, clamorous world for a moment, and this is what you experience - the natural world at its most fascinating. Tony Holkham's classically descriptive countryside diary is easy reading, and at the same time thought-provoking and amusing.. He sees things many people miss in their hectic lives, yet explains how a sense of wonder at these marvels is the way to reduced stress and increased pleasure....Threaded through this pleasant meander through the seasons of a year in one of the especially beautiful areas of Wales are the exploits of Tony's Jack Russell terrier, Sparky, who makes everyone laugh with his love of life; this in itself is an example to all who struggle to live in, and make sense of, this unsettled world. "

Don't Let Me Die In A Motel 6 or One Woman's Struggle Through The Great Recession
” SHOPAHOLIC meets Woody Allen as one middle-class, smartass gal is ejected from her cushy life after the crash of Washington Mutual Bank. Gone are the horses and weekend getaways, and in their place come rescue kitties and quick escapes from the Repo Man. Our heroine's travails echo the story of Job, but with much more kvetching: she is forced to declare bankruptcy, gives up all her credit cards (gasp!), and watches her house spin away with the Tidy Bowl man as it slides underwater. Instead of sushi at Katsuya, she dines on Kraft macaroni; in place of a 5,000 square foot house is a small studio apartment that she shares with two dogs, a bunny, and an adopted 14-year-old daughter. “

Better to Be Broken
” A broken body. A mended spirit. An unforgettable message. Rick Huntress had everything--and he had nothing. He was a self-centered man living a selfish life, until one fateful day when his whole world changed. A horrific accident left Rick in a wheelchair. But this tragic moment became a blessing. God touched Rick's heart, opening a door of ministry for those with broken spirits in need of healing.”

FICTION

Nature Survival, War, and other Hardship

Darcy Goes to War
”Spring 1944 - Britain is now in its fourth year of war. In order to defeat Adolph Hitler and his Nazis, everyone in the country must do his or her bit. While a young Elizabeth Bennet makes her contribution by driving a lorry, Fitzwilliam Darcy flies Lancaster bombers over Germany. Because of the war, both are wary of falling in love, but when the two meet near an airbase in Hertfordshire, all bets are off. Set against the background of World War II, in Darcy Goes to War, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy battle something more than class differences. The greatest evil of the 20th Century is trying to bring Britain to its knees. In order to be together, they must survive the war.”

Politics, Terrorism, and Intrigue/Conspiracy

The Wrath of God
"After the scientific discoveries of last two years, this book has become definitely in a science-visionary book. Its author is a new Jules Verne ... Its scientific basis is as real as awesome." (New Readers Magazine)
“When investigating the suicides of two biotechnologists terminally ill, two FBI agents are involved in a dangerous plot, where nothing is as it seems, urging them to reach in their research to the ends of the Earth. They will find a spine-chilling answer that could change forever the course of Humanity. Some ghosts of the past begin to emerge as well as the thin line that separates life from death, the ethical limits of scientific advances, the borders between dreams and obsessions, love and selfishness, and the convergence point between the passions, the miseries and the greatness of human being. An unparalelled story that arouses not only deep feelings but some disturbing questions. The Wrath of God is unleashed when the human being produces an imbalance in nature. Because all the imbalances tend sooner or later to return to their original condition or else to another stable enough.”

Element 17
”Meet Alan Parsons and his team. Travel with them through an exciting near-future world...where someone is out to cause trouble with incredibly powerful weapons, the likes of which none of them have ever seen.”

Flash Crash (Abby Churchland Series)
”In a matter of minutes, over a trillion dollars of value has evaporated from stocks traded on the New York Stock exchange. Abby Churchland, a top C.I.A. covert operative, uncovers the truth behind this precipitous drop, known on Wall Street as the "flash crash". Suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted, as she becomes a target of the very government she serves. An action filled, political thriller. NOTE: This novel is based on an actual event, involving the New York Stock Exchange on May 6, 2010 at 2:42 p.m.”

A Referendum on Conscience (The Perpetual Campaign; Book 2)
”A terrorist attack. A vote against a popular war. A re-election campaign. Rebecca McElroy is looking forward to retiring as she nears the end of her second term in the U.S. Senate. Clarissa Rogers, the senator's young speechwriter, is glad to be out of the campaign business and has no intention of ever going back. Then terrorists launch a devastating attack on Washington that drives the country into a bloody war and changes everything for the pacifist senator from Minnesota. Clarissa's sent home and is tasked with managing a campaign the experts predict is doomed to fail. They're running against fear and anger—and public opinion. All they have to go on is the senator's conscience.”

Collapse, Post-Apocalypse, Speculative Futures

2012 Armageddon: Unholy Alliance
“A global conspiracy is forming. Nations, terrorist groups, and criminal organizations with one thing in common, a burning hatred for America, are coming together to strike a crippling blow against freedom. Jordan, recently recruited into Homeland Security, races against time to prepare her family for the impending disaster, while still working through official channels to try to prevent it. If she can’t save the nation from its fate, she will do everything in her power to ensure her family’s survival, for with them lies the seed of hope for the future of democracy.”

Remnant Few
“They hid in the bowels of Blackrock Mountain, in a fallout shelter meant for men of state and not a loose pack of juvenile delinquents and violent soon-to-be career criminals. Considering the radiation, what else could they do? Camp Blackrock was designed to teach teamwork and social responsibility to juvenile offenders. Through hard work and shared challenges, the campers were taught vital skills such as reliance on self and others and proved effective in preventing adult recidivism. The only problem was that Dakota was not a criminal…This was not her first survivalist camp, but it was supposed to be her last. All she had left was her senior year, then off to college and no more of this wild waste of time learning to prepare for what would kill everyone anyway. Prepping, to her, was just stupid. But then the war started.”

The Ecomancer
”In this apocalyptic technothriller, Walter Williams finds himself working for a secretive paramilitary corporation in pursuit of environmental activists in British Columbia. After an ill-fated capture attempt, the activists unleash their attack and much of western civilization crumbles as strange demonic imagery is drenched across television and the Internet. In the wake of this devastation Walter Williams struggles to find his family and prepare for what’s coming next.”

More Sci-Fi-or-Fantasy-ish

SODIUM:2 Apocalypse
(I classified this here as others in the series mention aliens, although this one doesn’t.)
” Book two of the SODIUM series. What if civilization came to an abrupt end... What if you were left on your own to survive... If everything had been taken from you would you risk your life to get it back or would you attempt to hide in the shadows hoping the trouble would all go away? Heroes are not born, they are self made through their actions and deeds. Perhaps there are no more heroes. Perhaps this is the end for man. A handful of survivors are left to decide.”

The Glass Ruins
“Jasper Carnelian is a family man living in a post-collapse America with only the remnants of our current technology…The story alternates between Jasper’s trip to present-day Seattle and a time in the post-collapse future when Jasper is just ten years old (time–travel). In the present, he meets homeless men who discuss the failings of our world, lives through a bombing attack, and struggles to find his mother as a city falls into chaos.“ He has to convince his mother not to abort him.

Dover Beach (The Last P.I. Series, Book 1)
Philip K. Dick Award, Finalist
“In an America broken by a "limited" nuclear war, no one has use for would-be private eye Wally Sands. No one except for Dr. Charles Winfield, an eccentric scientist who believes he was cloned from a prominent biochemist as part of a top-secret project undertaken before the war. Sands sets out to find Winfield's mysterious progenitor, but finds himself on the trail of a killer instead.”
Not free in all places.

The following two books are not free in all places.
”All of the Atopia stories are 'sidequels' that begin at the same moment, running side by side in time, so that you can start by reading any of them and then read the others in any order you choose to slowly reveal the mystery and terrifying danger that connects them all. Atopia is a near future world without borders that balances on the brink of post-humanism and eco-Armageddon.
Blue Skies (Atopia Chronicles)
” Olympia is a high-powered New York advertising executive with perhaps the chance of a lifetime when she lands the biggest account of her life - the new Cognix synthetic reality promotion. The stress, however, is killing her, and she desperately needs relief from the distraction of everything and everyone around her...”
AND
Childplay (Atopia Chronicles)
” The Weather Wars have left Commander Rick Strong beaten but not broken, and an invitation to head the defense forces on the new Atopian colony is an opportunity to start over again and renew his relationship with his estranged wife. As the world comes back into focus for the Commander, it seems the perfect time to start a family of his own, but on Atopia, starting a family isn't what it used to be, and time suddenly seems to be running out as dangerous forces threaten to consume Atopia itself.”

Atrum Terra: Dark Lands
”What will it be like when the world really ends? Do you think that your Doomsday television shows and your Survival internet forums have prepared you for what is really coming? Do you think you will be able to keep your sanity with no cellular phone, no automobile, and no electricity? Will you be able to steal to stay warm, eat the family pet so you do not starve, or kill another human being to stay alive? You do not really want the world to end, not like this. Atrum Terra: Dark Lands tells the story of two people from different sides of the nation that struggle to survive after a devastating attack breaks the back of the United States. It is a journey in which the whole world is sent spiraling towards a dark future where humans are an endangered species.”
This does involve zombies, but the author explains that he made a point of explaining how they came about, logically, as opposed to most zombie novels. See link for more explanation of this.

SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS
Living off the Grid
“In daily life, we can take control of the resources and services we depend on. Electricity and energy don’t have to come off the public utility grid—alternatives abound in solar, wind, and water generated power. Design decisions can drastically affect power consumption, and bio-diesel and alternative fuels can help break the oil habit. Dave Black describes alternatives for eco-pimping your home and lifestyle for independence, economy, and a more integrated way of life. Equally valuable for the urban dweller vaguely concerned about the size of his or her carbon footprint and the rural self-sufficiency enthusiast, Living Off the Grid can help anyone take control of his or her life and way of living.”

List Price:$13.08 Previous price:$ (according to the book watching program I use)
Current price: $.99

Woodcraft and Indian Lore
“’I should like to lead this whole nation into the way of living outdoors,’ wrote Ernest Seton over seventy-five years ago. If the nation was in need of a dose of nature then, we can certainly benefit even more from Seton's sage advice now. Learn how to build a campfire, a dam, or a birch bark basket; to recognize animal tracks, constellations, and all manner of forestry; to stop a nose-bleed, ease poison ivy, or soothe a sore throat with natural remedies; to make delicious biscuits on the trail and spot edible mushrooms; and more. This book is essential for Boy Scouts and their leaders, and great fun for anyone desiring a fuller experience of outdoors life.”  As this is an old book it's probably available other places online too.
