Books Available June 1, 2012 -quite a few, including wilderness medicine

I'm sorry for the lateness of this post.  I didn't get up alone today so didn't get the hour and a half I usually do to focus early in the morning.  Plus there were just so many to look through today, my head is still spinning.

As ever, I haven't read these yet, so can't vouch for what's in them. For the non-fiction, I usually check reviews in general, and if there aren't any or enough, I usually check the preview.  I look for authentic-sounding authorship, but may miss some cranks.

TODAY'S BOOKS

**NOLS Wilderness Medicine: 4th Edition (NOLS Library)
You don't want to miss this one, for sure!  A "proper," high value book.

**What To Do 'til The Cavalry Comes: A Family Guide to Preparedness in 21st Century America
Another "proper" book--I haven't seen it free before so make sure to get it right away if you want it at all.

The Pocket Weather Forecaster
I got this and it looks fascinating and very useful.  Not "pocket" as in a page or two, but a LOT of succinct information, including about 33 photos of different kinds of clouds and what they mean.

Edible History: Easy Ancient Celtic, Gallic and Roman Techniques for Leavening Bread Without Modern Commercial Yeast
"Edible History introduces you to the ancient techniques to produce Celtic leaven, Gallic beer risen bread, and Roman sourdough. You can easily make these ancient breads at home."

How To Fish in a Pond : A Guide To Fishing In Small Ponds

Hay Bale Gardening
Short book or article about making your own bales and using them for raised beds, stump removal, and other yard and garden purposes.  Writer sells plans for a hand baler separately (and cheaply). One may not want to pay for this as it is sort of advertising, but it has some interesting info about uses for bales, and even if not for gardening but for hay storage in a tractorless situation, many of us would be interested in these hand operated homestead alternatives.

GOLD! A Gringo's Guide; How to: Find Gold Prospect For Gold Dredging & Hardrock Panning & Metal Detecting Investing In Gold

Make Your Own Soap the Easy Way: Your Complete Guide to the Art of Soap Making, Including the supplies, lye, process, homemade tips and soapmaking recipes

I Want My Country Back

-----------------------------------------------------
FICTION
I tend to put the more realist ones first and the "weirder" ones later in the list.
(Weird to me would mean magic or fantasy, I'm not into those but some might be.)

The Schmetterling Effect
European economic crisis leading to nuclear war, 50% loss of world population, world trade collapse, etc.

Torn
magnetic reversal

Hurricane

Never Too Far
"In a future of scarce resources, where the possession of gas and diesel is punishable by death, a teenage boy and a pregnant girl must save their impoverished family. They must risk their lives on a terrifying journey to sell stolen fuel on the black market."

Abstract/Concrete
Glasgow, 2024, government control

Nuclear Snakes

We need a Revolution
European dystopian future (military rule)

A Darkness Past Midnight (The Merlin Protocol)
Stats with apocalypse, moves into sci-fi and pseudo-magic

Anarchy Zone Time Yarns (Time Yarns Anthologies)
Short story collection, several set in a post-apocalyptic future, but with non-realist twists

Mutant Trappers A Dystopian "Tail" of the Future
"dystopian post-apocalyptic future where mutants roam the earth and The Powers demand sacrifices. This story should not be read by anyone who takes offense at religious satire."
