Free books updated August 14, 2013

Several were added late last night so check carefully.

Don't forget we're now using a new way of listing the books. I'll keep mentioning it for a while for those who don't check here daily.

Each subject is now a separate Amazon wish list. Links are below, under the "fine print."

Edge of Heaven depicts stories that were heard from the real Lucy Davenport Carpenter. Edge of Heaven is a spirited account of family life in western North Carolina at the turn of the century. In the late 1890s, rural life was often threatened by illness, poverty, and violence, but was softened by the love of family and the surrounding beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. This 15-year anniversary edition recaptures the magic readers felt by McCall’s imagination that brilliantly incorportates fact with fiction.

As always, please double-check the price before you "Buy" your free books. These books have been found to be free in the USA as of this morning. Different countries may have differing pricing. Please check prices before clicking "buy" to make sure they are still free. Please see the tips on using the lists, in the bullet list below.

PLEASE NOTE: To help support the blog and the many hours I spend on it, if you decide to purchase something from Amazon, I would really appreciate it if you would come back to the blog here first and click on an Amazon affiliate link on the right hand side, before making the purchase. I will then get a small percentage. Since Amazon changed their policy on March 1, I have been working on this blog (over 750 hours) almost entirely for free, and I would really like to start making it help the family again. With your help, I can do that.

Please support this blog by clicking this link before you make a paid purchase on Amazon.

If you are not one who purchases items from Amazon, or would prefer to help more directly and with more effect than a 4% commission, I will soon be figuring out a Paypal button by which you can contribute.

I can't express enough how much I appreciate your help!

Here are the links to the respective lists.

First, some tips on using these lists:

    • If you're new here or back after a break, use the sort fields to the right just above the first books on the list, to sort the list by price, low to high. The books that are free should be listed first. You can then go through them all and get all the ones you want. (Reason: as old timers here will remember, prices are subject to change without notice. I will only delete books from the lists as I have large windows of time to check that they're no longer free, which may not be often, hence the need to sort this way.)
    • Afterwards, for daily visits, I recommend using the sort field to "Show: Unpurchased" AND "Sort by: Date Added." Now keep an eye on the date added, in the right-hand column, so you don't miss all the ones added that day. (The reason is that sometimes I will forget that I added a book the day before and add it again...you will recognize it and think that's the previous day's list and stop there, and miss some books. Also, sometimes I add books late in the day that you'd have missed.)
    • Keep in mind that Amazon sorting engines are not perfect. If you sort by price, low to high, some are mixed up. At least they were for me. Your mileage may vary. You'd think that a company the size of Amazon would get this right, but.....
