Preparedness Fair #6
Being away all day yesterday threw me off--I'm so sorry the fair is late today! But here it is! Please add your preparedness posts--

I realize that a lot of people who are serious about preparing for disasters or hard times also are wary of sharing too much. Note that you don't have to enter your email address in the address field, you can just use a dash. Or perhaps you don't have a blog for this reason so haven't written any posts. For the moment I'd suggest that you could open a blog that has little personal or identifying information. Please do share your wisdom, though--there are many of us who can benefit!
How to enter your post....
If you're a seasoned "blog hopper" you'll know this, but if you're new at it...
1. First put the Preparedness Fair button into your post. It's lower down in the blog sidebar at left and also way down at the very bottom of this post. (See Etiquette heading above, #1)
2. Click on the little blue "Add Your Link" button at the bottom of the post
3. Enter the URL (internet address) of the specific post, not the home page of your blog. This way the links will remain accurate indefinitely.
4. Where it says "Name" put the title you want for your entry (not your name!).
5. For email address, if you are concerned about anonymity, you can just put a dash. (If there's abuse I'll have to rethink it.) An email address means I can contact you if there's a problem with your entry.
6. Click 'Next Step."
7. Follow prompts for choosing a photo for a thumbnail. By clicking on the tabs at the top you can choose a photo from your blog post or from your computer. You can crop it yourself if it's from your blog post, or let the software crop it for you.
[If the photo is from your computer, you can't crop it yourself; the computer will crop for you. If that's a problem you might want to make the photo square on a photo edit program first.]
8. Come back to the original page to make sure your entry worked, and visit some of the other links.
9. If you make a mistake, you can click on the little red X by your entry to delete it, and do it again.

Today's update is done.
The books are found under the new tabs/pages with headings for the different subjects of books. Each will be updated daily. The updating process takes quite some time, and will happen in "real time" so if you happen to be on a page while I'm updating, you'll see the books added.
I have found a source to search for books that are free in the US. (Usually I can't as Amazon knows I'm in Canada and adjusts its prices accordingly.) As most of the readers of this blog are from the US, this is a good thing.
What this all means:
Everyone should check the price before clicking "buy". As I'm in Canada I can't verify the US prices, and prices are subject to change rather suddenly.
Especially those who are not in the US should check prices first. Not all the books listed will be free in Canada and other countries, although many will, perhaps even most.
The books will not appear on the day's blog entry any more, but on the tabs. I will update the blog and the Facebook page as each day's update is completed. I'll also post my "picks" if I happen to have any, on the blog page (i.e. here)

Free Books Available Mar 12, 2013
Today's update is done.
You will see that things look different here. Up at the top are new tabs/pages with headings for the different subjects of books. Each will be updated daily. The updating process takes quite some time, and will happen in "real time" so if you happen to be on a page while I'm updating, you'll see the books added.
Also, I have found a source to search for books that are free in the US. (Usually I can't as Amazon knows I'm in Canada and adjusts its prices accordingly.) As most of the readers of this blog are from the US, this is a good thing. (There will be a lot of extra books today that didn't show up in searches for me before.)

Free Books Available Mar 10, 2013
We're back! It was a difficult time. Thank you to those of you who commented with good wishes. I really appreciate it. My friend passed away this morning. A very sad time.
As for the blog, it is now taking much longer to search for books because there are so many different ways and none of them work perfectly, so I do them all. I've started doing a link list using specialized program that I use for the Preparedness Fair. The idea is that the new books each day are added to the top of each list. Once you hit the books you saw yesterday, you can stop. I will delete books as I have time to check they're no longer free. Some books that will end up at the bottom of the different lists are long-term free. Thank you for your patience!
To those who have written comments that I haven't replied to yet, this is why--hopefully I'll have a bit of time soon! Thank you so much.
If you could PLEASE PLEASE wait to download until it's been at least 24 hours since you last clicked on one of my Amazon affiliate links..UNLESS you made a paid purchase after clicking it--an affiliate link would include the free books from yesterday AND/OR the Amazon links on the sidebar...this would help to ensure I don't run up the total too quickly and have to stop listing mid-month.***(see explanation at bottom)

Worried about anonymity?
I realize that a lot of people who are serious about preparing for disasters or hard times also are wary of sharing too much. Note that you don't have to enter your email address in the address field, you can just use a dash. Or perhaps you don't have a blog for this reason so haven't written any posts. For the moment I'd suggest that you could open a blog that has little personal or identifying information. Please do share your wisdom, though--there are many of us who can benefit!
How to enter your post....
If you're a seasoned "blog hopper" you'll know this, but if you're new at it...
1. First put the Preparedness Fair button into your post. It's lower down in the blog sidebar at left and also way down at the very bottom of this post. (See Etiquette heading above, #1)
2. Click on the little blue "Add Your Link" button at the bottom of the post
3. Enter the URL (internet address) of the specific post, not the home page of your blog. This way the links will remain accurate indefinitely.
4. Where it says "Name" put the title you want for your entry (not your name!).
5. For email address, if you are concerned about anonymity, you can just put a dash. (If there's abuse I'll have to rethink it.) An email address means I can contact you if there's a problem with your entry.
6. Click 'Next Step."
7. Follow prompts for choosing a photo for a thumbnail. By clicking on the tabs at the top you can choose a photo from your blog post or from your computer. You can crop it yourself if it's from your blog post, or let the software crop it for you.
[If the photo is from your computer, you can't crop it yourself; the computer will crop for you. If that's a problem you might want to make the photo square on a photo edit program first.]
8. Come back to the original page to make sure your entry worked, and visit some of the other links.
9. If you make a mistake, you can click on the little red X by your entry to delete it, and do it again.
