This page is now showing true stories that are long-term free.  They may include war, accident, any hardship, simple and/or country living, nature survival, and life stories that include, for example, life during the Great Depression or earlier times without modern conveniences.

The Story of a Pioneer by Anna Howard Shaw (listed Apr. 2) may also be read directly online  HERE.  Plot synopsis and review can be found HERE. The first part is about Scottish immigrants who face hardship at home and in  the "new world."  Descriptions of her mother's reaction to the conditions are poignant.  Later the story moves to the author's suffrage work.+ +
